Natural Mosquito Repellents:

Natural Mosquito Repellents:

* Rub Watkins medicated ointment on your pants and legs to ward off ticks.

* Use half Watkins vanilla (has to be pure vanilla) and half water and for a mosquito and tick repellent.

* Dab Watkins lavender oil on your pulse points; it smells great on you but repels insects.

Natural Health Tips

ASTHMA: Mix 1 tsp. honey with 1/2 tsp. Watkins cinnamon and take it at night before going to bed.

DRY SKIN: Combine 1 cup oatmeal, 1 cup warm water, 1 Tbsp. Watkins vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup baking soda in a blender or food processor until you have a smooth paste. Pour this paste under the running water while drawing the bath. Very soothing to dry, itchy skin.

MUCUS IN COUGH: Pour 1 cup boiling water over 1/2 tsp. each of Watkins ginger, Watkins ground cloves, and Watkins cinnamon. Filter. Sweeten with 1 tsp. honey and drink.

STOMACH ACHE: A simple cure for a stomachache is to dissolve 1 1/2 tsp. Watkins ground cinnamon in 1 cup warm water, cover and let sit for 15 minutes, then drink it like tea. This remedy can also ease diarrhea and flatulence.

VOMITING AND NAUSEA: Watkins cinnamon and sliced ginger work by interrupting nausea signals sent from the stomach to the brain. If you are an herbal tea drinker, simply sprinkle cinnamon on the tea and drink. To make ginger tea, simmer a few slices of ginger in hot tea water.

Don't forget to clean your lint filter!

It's amazing how much lint clothing creates on a lint filter in the dryer, but even more amazing is how many people don't know the importance of cleaning their lint filters. Here are a few tips for keeping your dryer clean:

  • Wipe down the exterior and interior of your dryer weekly with Watkins Dish Soap and water to remove lint from the outside and inside of your dryer.
  • Clean your lint filter each time you use the dryer to provide the best results for drying clothes and keeping your home safe. Built up dryer lint can provide an environment for fire. It's a good idea to occasionally vacuum around the lint filter area to get loose particles.
  • Do a seasonal check for buildup of lint in the hoses and around the dryer.

Peppermint & Cleaning go hand in hand!

Here are some great ideas to help you go green while you clean with peppermint!

  1. Freshen up your microwave by putting about a 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract on a damp cloth and wiping down the inside of you microwave.
  2. Take a clean spray bottle and put in a tsp or 2 of peppermint extra, then fill with water. Then spray where needed as a "air freshener"
  3. When done washing your kitchen cutting boards, give them a few sprays from your spray bottle to help deodorize and clean them.
  4. As peppermint is a natural cleaning agent, use a damp rag with some peppermint extra on it to wipe down the baby's high chair or toys etc.

Yes, I enjoy washing dishes!

You are most likely saying "is she out of her mind?" I have always enjoyed doing the dishes. I find it relaxing and calming. I guess it is the water movement and the time I have to think about things as I doing the dishes. I usually take this time to think and reflect on certain things that are happening.

My dish washing experience has gotten even more relaxing and calming for me as I have discovered a little trick to help me enjoy it even more. I now add a few drops of my Watkins All Natural Peppermint Extract.

Your Cat & Peppermint Extract

I was doing some research on cats as I have one and I love learning new things to spoil and help him stay in great health. I came across a site that suggested that instead of giving your cat a bath especially in this cold, rub some peppermint extract on them. This will help eliminate any odors. It also stated if you are bringing home a new kitty, try this so that it hides the smell of the new cat.

I found this very interesting, hope you do to!

Natural Peppermint Foot Cream not just for your feet!

That's right!

Another great way to enjoy the benefits of this fantastic product is to apply and rub it across your forehead and along your temples to help relieve your headache pain.

Petro Carbo Testimonials

  • My husband, Marv, had cracks between his fingers and we had spent a lot of money trying to get them healed. We rubbed Watkins Petro-Carbo Salve on the cracks and within one month they were completely healed and have not been a problem since. We use it on any sores we get. It's a wonderful healing salve.
    —LouAnne Holmquist, Minnesota
  • A friend had deep cracks in her hands that were very painful and bled often. She tried several prescription medications but found little relief until she tried Watkins Petro-Carbo Salve. She has had wonderful results and no longer uses prescription medications.
    —Pat Paul, Kansas
  • A metal sliver was lodged in the palm of my hand and it was so deep that I worked for hours trying to remove it. Before I went to bed I put Watkins Petro-Carbo Salve on the sliver and in the morning the sliver came right out.
    —Karry Nelson, Ontario
  • After having surgery on my hand, I rubbed Petro-Carbo on the scar and I was surprised to see the scar simply disappear!
    —Ken Boleen, British Columbia
  • I've endured severe psoriasis since the late 80's. Side effects from prescriptions outweighed any relief, and standard treatment just made it more comfortable to live with, but did not get rid of it. The treatments also reduced quality of life, as it caused weight gain and dulls sensation. I was totally skeptical when my Watkins Associate told me to try Petro-Carbo Salve. I used it on one bad area, just to test it, and I was amazed at how fast my skin returned to normal. Areas that had plagued me for years began clearing in days. The dark blotches left from previously healed areas began fading within 10 days. At the end of my second week, I stopped using my prescription, and now I use only Watkins Petro-Carbo Salve. Thanks,Watkins...I'll be a customer for life!
    —David Koyle, Ontario
  • I really love your Petro-Carbo Salve. I have had a condition called hand dermatitis for about six years and I went to three dermatologists who told me I would just have to live with it; that there was no cure. I was desperate to find something that worked. Then one day I ran into a Watkins Associate and she gave me a sample of the Petro-Carbo Salve. I used it for one full week and after that week I no longer needed to wear gloves. After using it for six months, I'm happy to say that I no longer have to take an oral steroid or have to pay for the steroid medicine for my hands. Your product has been amazing for me in this struggle.
    —Tammy Glatt, Pennsylvania
  • My son suffered serious diaper rash that was very painful, and I tried numerous things, including prescription ointments, but nothing helped until I tried Watkins Petro-Carbo Salve. It worked right away and cleared up the rash within one day. I've never used anything else since.

Ecological footprint — the amount of water and food needed to meet your daily needs throughout your lifetime. Carbon footprint — the amount of energy you consume to conduct your life. Imagine how much electricity, natural gas, and gasoline you use to run your home, power your car and even get that morning bowl of cereal to your table. Good & Green!

What is Green?

"Green" living is a way of life that considers the consequences of ones actions on the environment. It is a way of conducting life in an effort to preserve environmental quality.

It doesn't take much to fit Green living into your life. Sometimes all it takes is a little creative thinking. How about reusing the J.R. Watkins Natural Home Care bottles? Here are some great ways to put them to use.

Use them to mist water on delicate indoor plants (after they have been rinsed clean).

Planter — Make your own planter by cutting off the top 1/3 of the bottle, poke holes in the bottom and enjoy your new planter. This is a great activity for children; they love to watch their plants grow!

Bug House — Reuse as a container to collect bugs and insects for your child's bug collection. Once bugs are inside place a cloth around the top of the bottle and secure with a rubber band.

Cooler Ice Packs — Fill bottle 2/3 full of water and freeze. That way you always have ice packs on hand.

Ocean in a Bottle — Fill ½ the bottle with oil and half with water. Add food coloring and glitter. Makes a fun and mesmerizing toy.

Substitute Funnel — Cut off the bottom 1/3 of the bottle and keep it in the car for adding oil or window washing fluid.

Textured Paint — Dilute latex interior paint 1 : 1 with water and spray onto walls for a decorative finish.

And when you've run out of uses, clean and recycle!

Note: Rinse bottles several times with soap and water before using them for any other purpose.

A Slippery Solution!

Did you know that a can of Watkins Cooking Spray in your cupboard has other uses you may have
never considered? You can spray it on measuring spoons before measuring sticky foods like molasses
and honey and they will easily slide off. You can also spray your knives before chopping dates or other
dried fruits. Also, it can be sprayed on cheese graters to prevent the cheese from sticking.

What's The Buzz?

If you've turned on the radio or television lately, you've probably heard the term Green more than once. Seems that these days everyone is going Green and reducing their carbon footprint. But what do these terms really mean? They are buzzwords that we are going to continue hearing a lot about, so let's find out what all the BUZZ is about!

Green is a shorthand phrase referring to sustaining Earth's resources. It is a vague term that can be used in many different contexts. But footprints are a bit of a different story. Think about the way you live your life. How much water does it take to support your actions each day? Do you enjoy half-hour showers or are you a get-in and get-out kind of person? Doesn't seem like it makes much of a difference, but it does add up and the longer your showers the bigger your ecological footprint. Ecological footprint, what's that? It is the amount of water and food needed to meet your daily needs throughout your lifetime. Now, what about your carbon footprint? This is another term we hear about almost on a daily basis. What it boils down to is really very simple, it is the amount of energy you consume to conduct your life. Imagine how much electricity, natural gas, and gasoline you use to run your home, power your car and even get that morning bowl of cereal to your table. It all adds up and just a few small steps can help to reduce it.

We can go into an in depth discussion about footprints and being Green, but lets focus on carbon footprints.

Your carbon footprint is the amount of energy you use to live day-to-day. By reducing your footprint, not only are you conserving energy and the planet, but you are also saving money. Checkout these simple carbon footprint reducers…who knew cutting your carbon footprint could also save you money?

  • Turn off televisions, stereos, home theater systems, and other electronics when not in use. When you turn your television and other electronics off for the night, flip the switch on the power strip and totally eliminate wasted power.

Here's the dirt on food!

Lunchtime - a spoonful of this, a handful of that, a dab of ...dirt? Like it or not, we actually eat several pounds of dirt in our lifetime, according to Susan Moores, a St. Paul, Minnesota, dietitian. Luckily, Mom was right - a little dirt never hurt anyone - but there are a few other culprits that are cause for concern. Bugs, weeds and other critters wreak havoc on plants, and chemicals ar often used to keep them away. Since these chemicals are specifically designed not to wash off in the rain, it stands to reason that they won't wash off with tap water, either. Even organically-grown foods harbor dirt, insects and bacteria that water alone won't wash off. If the thought of ingesting dirt and other foreign matter isn't very appetizing, Watkins Fresh Wash can help make it all a little easier to swallow. Fresh Wash is proven to work 400% better than rinsing with water alone, removing over 90% of surface contaminants and impurities. It even doubles the healthy life of lettuce. Choose from spray or concentrate - either way, it will definitely clean your palate!

Have a Headache or Migraine?

Cause: Headaches are a neurological condition with symptoms ranging from
mild to severe and disabling. More than 23 million people in the United States
suffer from migraine, corresponding to over 17% of all females and 6% of all
males living in the U.S.

There are two main types of headache: primary and secondary.
Primary Headaches include tension-type, migraine and cluster headaches
and are not caused by other underlying medical conditions. More than 90%
of headaches are primary.

Secondary Headaches result from other medical conditions, such as infection
or increased pressure in the skull due to a tumor. These account for fewer than
10% of all headaches.

What May Help: Watkins Superfood Multiple (Super Multi), Female Formula and Osteogen
Why: Contain magnesium and calcium. Daily supplements of calcium and magnesium are recommended for those who suffer from Migraines. These minerals help to maintain healthy blood vessels, and low levels
of magnesium are common in people who suffer from migraines. Superfood Multiple (Super Multi) also contains riboflavin (B-2) which may help to reduce the frequency of migraines.

What May Help: Watkins Rezist Plus
Why: Ingredients help to block harmful invaders from entering the body which may help to reduce the triggers that lead to headaches.

What May Help:Watkins Peppermint Foot Cream
Why: Research has shown that peppermint applied to the forehead and temples may help to ease headache pain and compares favorably with acetaminophen in its ability to reduce headache symptoms.

What May Help: Foods high in omega 3 fatty acids, such as salmon, may help prevent migraines.
Why: They may help to reduce blood vessel spasms.

Helpful Hint: Certain foods and beverages are known to trigger migraines. If you suffer from
migraines, try to avoid the following: Aged cheeses, onions, pickles, cured meats, chocolate,
red wine, beer, sour cream, nuts, freshly baked yeast products, eggs, tomatoes, citrus fruits
and caffeinated beverages.

Try This:
At the outbreak of a headache, apply Watkins Peppermint Foot Cream, Icy Blue Ointment or
Menthol Camphor Ointment (Medicated Ointment) onto the temples, forehead and back of neck. Rub in circular motion. Repeat at least 2 times at 15-minute intervals.
If you experience chronic headaches, before going to bed, rub Watkins Menthol Camphor Ointment (Medicated Ointment) or Icy Blue Ointment onto feet. Put on a pair of cotton socks over the ointment. According to Naturopaths and personal testimonials, this may help to ward off headaches.

Living Green Tips

Watkins Natural Home Care

Dispose of filthy Cleaning Products!
The average family will spend $600 replacing their cleaning products this year alone. Why not replace them with Watkins Natural Home Care products, they are healthier for loved ones and the planet. And, with families replacing products every single week and using roughly 40 lbs. of cleaning agents a year, you can see how simply replacing harsh cleaners with environmentally friendly products could really make a positive impact on the earth!

Natural Liquid Hand Soap

Wash your Hands!
Clean up your hands without exposing yourself or family to harsh chemicals. The common ingredient in antibacterial soaps is Triclosan — believed to take the form of Dioxin when it mixes with plain old tap water. Not only that, this harsh chemical has been linked with drug resistant bacteria and weakened immune systems in humans. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control found there is no benefit to using antibacterial hand soaps over the old stand-by — soap and water.

Watkins Natural Liquid Hand Soaps clean your hands — naturally — while they refresh your spirit with the scents of Lavender, Aloe & Green Tea, and Lemon. And get this, they are Triclosan free!

Watkins Tote

Bag it!
Keep a tote bag in your vehicle for daily shopping stops. When you stop to purchase groceries and other goods, make sure you bring your tote in the store with you to carry them home. Better yet, you can advertise your Watkins business and protect the environment at the same time with a Watkins logo tote (work with a local screen printing shop to get your own Watkins tote). With over 36 billion plastic sacks being used in the U.S. alone, this one effort could save a lot of ozone depleting chemicals from being released into the atmosphere. If you find yourself without your tote, opt for a paper sack instead - this option has much less impact on the earth. Imagine the impact we all could make if every Watkins Associate took this one simple step!

Watkins Natural Laundry Detergent
Laundry Day!
Pick one day of the week to do your laundry. This one simple decision will not only save you money on your utility bill, it will help conserve energy by taking advantage of residual heat from your dryer. You can further your eco-friendly actions by washing your clothes in cold water and use Watkins Lemon Liquid Laundry Concentrate Soap. Because it takes only 1 oz. per load, we are able to reduce the packaging to half the size of a standard 100 oz. bottle — less waste and less impact on the environment! Not only that, it doesn't contain phosphates, like other laundry detergents, that can't be removed from water sources with current waste water treatments and end up in fresh water areas.
