Natural Mosquito Repellents:

Natural Mosquito Repellents:

* Rub Watkins medicated ointment on your pants and legs to ward off ticks.

* Use half Watkins vanilla (has to be pure vanilla) and half water and for a mosquito and tick repellent.

* Dab Watkins lavender oil on your pulse points; it smells great on you but repels insects.

Natural Health Tips

ASTHMA: Mix 1 tsp. honey with 1/2 tsp. Watkins cinnamon and take it at night before going to bed.

DRY SKIN: Combine 1 cup oatmeal, 1 cup warm water, 1 Tbsp. Watkins vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup baking soda in a blender or food processor until you have a smooth paste. Pour this paste under the running water while drawing the bath. Very soothing to dry, itchy skin.

MUCUS IN COUGH: Pour 1 cup boiling water over 1/2 tsp. each of Watkins ginger, Watkins ground cloves, and Watkins cinnamon. Filter. Sweeten with 1 tsp. honey and drink.

STOMACH ACHE: A simple cure for a stomachache is to dissolve 1 1/2 tsp. Watkins ground cinnamon in 1 cup warm water, cover and let sit for 15 minutes, then drink it like tea. This remedy can also ease diarrhea and flatulence.

VOMITING AND NAUSEA: Watkins cinnamon and sliced ginger work by interrupting nausea signals sent from the stomach to the brain. If you are an herbal tea drinker, simply sprinkle cinnamon on the tea and drink. To make ginger tea, simmer a few slices of ginger in hot tea water.

Watkins Natural Body Oils

J.R. Watkins soothing body oils are a rich blend of luxurious natural oils regarded for their anti-aging and nourishing qualities. Pour a small amount into a bath or smooth into skin immediately after bathing—your skin will thank you!

• All body oils are 99.50% natural and above.
• Available in four essences: aloe & green tea, lemon cream, lavender and mango.
• Use in bath or as an all-over body oil.
• Perfect for massages and cuticle care.
• Natural oils include grapeseed, macadamia, apricot, avocado and safflower oil.
• Leaves a soft, non-greasy feel.
• Packaged in Watkins exclusive glass Trial Mark bottle.

Essential Ingredients:

• Grapeseed Oil: Produced from the residue of grapes that have been pressed for wine. Recently
“rediscovered” as a cooking oil for its hearthealthy blend of linoleic acid and antioxidants, it has long been a favorite massage oil. It is cleansing, toning, very light and odorless, and absorbs easily through the skin.

• Macadamia Nut Oil: This rejuvenating body oil has a warm, nutty aroma and excellent spreadability with no greasy feel. Its fatty acid composition is similar to that of natural skin
oils (sebum), including some of the acids that are crucial to the maintenance of the skin’s water barrier functions. It is excellent for daily skin care to moisturize and soften the skin.

• Apricot Kernel Oil: This oil is similar in texture and properties to almond oil (you’ll notice that
the pit of an apricot looks remarkably like an almond), and is in the same category as olive oil
and avocado oil. Apricot kernel oil is considered by many chemists to be an excellent natural
replacement for mineral oil; it is rapidly absorbed by the skin and has a high vitamin E content.

• Avocado Oil: Delivers essential fatty acids, and contains vitamin A (in the form of carotenoids),
plus exceptionally high amounts of vitamins D, E and potassium to help keep skin moist and
smooth. Avocado oil has the highest penetration rate among similar oils.

Ingredients we avoid:

• Parabens
• Sulfates
• Chemical Sunscreens
• Petro Chemicals
• Glycols
• Phthalates
• DEA/TEA-synthetic stabilizers
• Formaldehyde Donors
• 1,4 Dioxanes
• Polymers
• Acrylates
• Carbomer
• PVP
• Chemical Preservatives
• Silicones

Why kids are more vulnerable to chemicals…

Living Naturally Logo

Living Naturally

These days everyone is making a greater effort to conserve the planet's resources. Words like carbon footprint, sustainability, and green have become common place in our society. We're all taking a closer look at how our day-to-day activities affect the resources we have for future generations. Watkins has been a pioneer in living naturally since 1868.

Why kids are more vulnerable to chemicals…

Children are much more sensitive than adults to chemicals in the environment. Exposure to a chemical that causes no discernible effect in an adult can cause significant harm to an infant. Some reasons for this include:

  • Children frequently have their hands in their mouths, making it more likely that they will ingest toxins with which they come in contact.
  • Children have a faster metabolism — pound for pound, children eat more food and breathe more air than adults.
  • Children play on the floor, where many toxins in the home settle.
  • Children's metabolic pathways are immature, and they are less able to detoxify and excrete toxins that get into their system.
  • Children are undergoing rapid development, and organ systems that are disrupted while in the middle of growing may fail to form correctly.
  • Children have more years for toxins to accumulate in their bodies and reach unsafe levels.
(Green Up your Cleanup - Jill Potvin Schoff)

Watkins all-natural, plant-based homecare products are the perfect solution. Children really are the heart of the Green movement and doesn't it really come down to doing what is best for our kids?

Yes, I enjoy washing dishes!

You are most likely saying "is she out of her mind?" I have always enjoyed doing the dishes. I find it relaxing and calming. I guess it is the water movement and the time I have to think about things as I doing the dishes. I usually take this time to think and reflect on certain things that are happening.

My dish washing experience has gotten even more relaxing and calming for me as I have discovered a little trick to help me enjoy it even more. I now add a few drops of my Watkins All Natural Peppermint Extract.

Your Cat & Peppermint Extract

I was doing some research on cats as I have one and I love learning new things to spoil and help him stay in great health. I came across a site that suggested that instead of giving your cat a bath especially in this cold, rub some peppermint extract on them. This will help eliminate any odors. It also stated if you are bringing home a new kitty, try this so that it hides the smell of the new cat.

I found this very interesting, hope you do to!

Natural Peppermint Foot Cream not just for your feet!

That's right!

Another great way to enjoy the benefits of this fantastic product is to apply and rub it across your forehead and along your temples to help relieve your headache pain.

With Standing the Test of Time

For more than 140 years, Watkins, Incorporated has been America’s pioneer in natural living, utilizing only the finest natural ingredients.

Watkins provides quality brands to meet consumer’s needs for environmentally friendly and sustainable products — to help people feel better and live healthy lives. Lotions, pain-relieving liniment, organic spices and eco-friendly home cleaning products – all of it made by experts at Watkins who care about the decisions consumers have to make about everyday products, every day. In 2008, Watkins launched several new lines in the home care, home remedy, bath and body and gourmet pantry and food categories.

Moms Gain Clean-Conscience With Watkins’ Home Care

Mothers looking to clean their homes can now do so with a clean conscience with a new non-toxic plant-based product line called J.R. Watkins Natural Home Care.

Moms can breathe easier knowing that J.R. Watkins Natural Home Care products do not contain harsh chemicals such as ammonia, chlorine and others commonly found in many household cleaners. Household products are known to be one of the largest contributors of health problems in the home, including respiratory irritation1. In the U.S., one in three people suffer from allergies, asthma, sinusitis or bronchitis2. Watkins is committed to using only the finest natural ingredients and environmentally friendly processes so mothers can feel good knowing they are not adding chemicals and waste to the home or workplace.

  • J.R. Watkins All-Purpose Cleaner — quickly removes grease and grime from most household surfaces. This easy to use spray and wipe formula is available in aloe and green tea and lemon fragrances.
  • J.R. Watkins Liquid Dish Soap Concentrates — a small amount of these concentrated soaps leaves dishes beautifully clean and spotless while the scented suds provide a pleasant aroma. No phosphates, dyes or SLS and easy-to-use flip top containers avoid messy drips. Available in aloe and green tea and lemon scents.
  • J.R. Watkins Window Cleaners — this powerful streak-free formula gently lifts grime, dust and fingerprints away to leave glass surfaces looking crystal clear. The gentle coconut-based formula is ideal for tinted windows. Available in aloe and green tea and lavender fragrances.
  • J.R. Watkins Liquid Hand Soaps — naturally formulated with lavender, rosemary, coconut oils and palm leaf extracts, it leaves hands feeling soft and clean. These soaps are available in aloe and green tea and lemon.
  • J.R. Watkins All-Purpose Cleaning Wipes — these biodegradable and durable all-purpose wipes allow the homeowner to easily wipe away dirt and grime with no water or rinsing required compared to most wipes. Available in compact packaging for easy travel with an aloe and green tea fragrance.
  • J.R. Watkins Citrus Tub and Tile Cleaner — a light mist of this natural cleaner leaves the tub, tile and fixtures dirt and toxin free. It cleans away hard water stains and soap scum in an environmentally safe way that won’t harm your fixtures or septic system. Watkins recommends letting the product sit for 15 minutes for tough scum build up and then gently scrub away the stains. The cleaner is so gentle that rubber gloves are not needed.
  • J.R. Watkins Lemon Toilet Bowl Cleanser — the cedar-based formula is one of the least acidic or caustic cleaners on the market, but it’s strong enough to wash away the toughest water stains and will decalcify toilets naturally without harsh chemical fumes.

The line is made from renewable, plentiful ingredients from the natural world and created at the original Watkins facility (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) since the late 1800s located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River overlooking the small town of Winona, Minn.

Watkins Natural Home Care

Did you know one in three people suffer from allergies, asthma, sinusitis or bronchitis? That makes decision-making tough when purchasing cleaning products for around the house. Organic. Natural. What’s the Difference?

Why Care? And, Why Watkins?

When referring to products as natural or all-natural, generally the product does not contain artificial or synthetic material and has sustained very minimal processing. Organic on the other hand signifies the way a product is actually grown and processed.

Organically grown products are farmed using only natural processing methods, free from pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers. For a product to be labeled organic, it must pass a certification process, with national standards set forth by The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Whether domestic or international, individual farms and manufacturing facilities are supervised by USDA agencies that carefully scrutinize each step before passing certification.

Trends in America today show the consumer’s demand for natural and organic products is on the rise. According to the Organic Trade Association, sales in the organic category will increase 18 percent annually through 2008. Mainstream supermarkets are expanding their natural and organic selections to include fruits, vegetables, meat, and poultry to accommodate this growing need.

It is clear consumers are looking for ways to introduce more natural, healthy and organic products into their lifestyles. Consumers take more time to educate themselves on what they put into or on their bodies.

And as many are now looking to add organic foods to their daily meals, often times they find organics to be costlier than traditional foods. Watkins offers a full line of spices at every day prices to add to that effort. Giving the consumer the comfort of adding organics to their diet, without denting their pocket book.

But gourmet pantry items are just one aspect. Household products are one of the largest contributors of health problems in homes. Cleaners containing ammonia, chlorine and other chemical ingredients have been known to cause respiratory irritation. In North America, one in three people suffer from allergies, asthma, sinusitis or bronchitis (US National Center for Health Statistics).

Today, the new J.R. Watkins Natural Cleaning Products feature non-toxic plant-based formulas that are both biodegradable and phosphate free. These ultra concentrated cleaners are naturally derived so they are easy on the environment, your home and your loved ones. Here’s our brand commitment:

  • Ammonia Free
  • Animal Ingredient Free
  • Boron Free
  • Butyl/Ethyl Free
  • Chlorine Free
  • Diethylene Ether Free
  • Dye Free
  • Formaldehyde Free
  • Isopropanol Free
  • Kerosene Free
  • Benzene Free
  • Biodegradable
  • Mineral Spirit Free
  • Non-toxic
  • Petrochemical Free
  • Phosphate Free
  • Phosphoric Acid Free
  • Propylene Glycol Free
  • SLS Free
  • Sulfuric Acid Free

Similarly, Watkins is dedicated to providing personal care that is truly natural. Watkins’ formulas are 95% natural and above, with many at 99% natural and higher. Using renewable, plentiful ingredients from mother earth, we offer a luxurious line of personal care for every day use, free of synthetic or irritating chemicals. And as always, our products are never tested on animals.

In the new J.R. Watkins Natural Apothecary line, consumers can count on products that are:

  • 95% natural and above
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate free
  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate free
  • Paraben free
  • Phthalate free
  • Mineral Oil, Petrolatum free
  • Dye free

What products and ingredients touch consumers’ skin is important. See what other ingredients are not found in J.R. Watkins Natural Apothecary line.

The same environmentally-safe and good-for-you philosphies apply with the home remedy line. During a time when there are record numbers of over-the-counter medical prescriptions, Watkins liniment, salves, burn cream, camphor ointment and more become must-haves in every home medicine cabinet. Consumers feel good about the Watkins home remedies because they are more than just effective, they’re natural and safe.

Green it Up

Green living is a way of life that considers the consequences of ones actions on the environment .
Watkins is taking steps to preserve environmental quality in all of our product categories, but we want to spotlight how our natural home care line is a step ahead of the rest. Unlike food, the home care category has no governing agency defining ingredients that are natural. Watkins
wanted to make sure that when we called our cleaning products green, it really meant something. The definition we developed became our Natural Home Care Freedom Code. This code includes ingredients that are considered harmful to the environment, and you won’t find
these in our home care products. Some are non-renewable (petroleum), some can cause respiratory irritation (ammonia), while others are synthetic (dyes and colorants). Watkins has been working hard to set the industry standard for natural home care products, and we are
proud to say that no other natural cleaning brand holds themselves to a higher standard or a stricter freedom code than Watkins.

Green — a shorthand phrase referring to sustaining Earth's resources. It is a vague term that can be used in many different contexts. Ecological footprint — the amount of water and food needed to meet your daily needs throughout your lifetime. Carbon footprint — the amount of energy you consume to conduct your life. Imagine how much electricity, natural gas, and gasoline you use to run your home, power your car and even get that morning bowl of cereal to your table. It all adds up and just a few small steps can help to reduce it.

Ways to reduce your carbon footprint:

  • Turn off televisions, stereos, home theater systems, and other electronics when not in use. Try this: plug your televisions and other home theater electronics in a power strip with an on/off switch. When you turn your television and other electronics off for the night, flip the switch on the power strip and totally eliminate wasted power.
  • Save over 50% on your homes lighting cost when you replace a standard incandescent bulb with a compact fluorescent bulb. They last longer too!
  • Always wash clothes in cold water. Not only does this preserve the color longer, it saves you money and conserves energy.
  • Use your consumer power! Support companies that are making an effort to improve communities and the environment through Greener manufacturing practices, charitable support, and product offerings that are safe for your family and the environment. Watkins offers a full line of natural, eco-friendly spices and extracts, personal care and home care.
